It has been quite a while since I have posted a recipe, and as I am preparing my holiday menus and shopping list, I thought I would share a family favorite. My family enjoys this every Christmas morning. I one and a half times this recipe (minus the bread) for my crowd. It is great to prepare the day ahead and it bakes while we open our stockings Christmas morning! From our family to yours, enjoy!!
Breakfast Egg & Sausage Casserole
1 lb. ground pork sausage
1 tsp. mustard powder
½ tsp. salt
6 eggs, beaten
2 cups milk
6 slices of white bread, or half a loaf of crusty Italian or Sourdough, cubed and toasted
8 oz. mild cheddar cheese, shredded
Crumble sausage into a medium skillet and cook over a medium heat until evenly browned, drain and set aside. In a medium bowl, mix eggs, mustard powder, milk, and salt. Add the sausage, bread, and cheese. Stir to coat evenly. Pour into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover and chill in refrigerator overnight, or at least 8 hours. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake covered for 45 minutes. Reduce heat to 325 and uncover casserole and bake an additional 30 minutes, or until set.
